Troy Anthony Davis is Still Waiting to Live or Die
Troy Anthony Davis, who was convicted of killing a police officer, is still waiting to learn whether he will live or die.
He was sentenced to death with a law in effect that makes it very difficult to get an appeal. Most of the witnesses in his case have recanted their testimonies; there's no DNA evidence; there's no murder weapon.
The Georgia Supreme Court at least heard oral arguments requesting a new trial on November 13, 2007, but Davis is still waiting. He has gotten support to get his case reconsidered from Archbishop Desmond Tutu, US Senator Carol Moseley, Jesse L. Jackson Jr., Pope Benedict and several others.
Will he be a victim of the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996? All too often in America, laws designed to get "bad guys" get innocent people as well. Is Davis innocent? We don't know. But we do believe he has the right to a fair trial. Some witnesses later said they were intimidated by police; one even said he was paid by the police to lie.

This shows you why the death penalty is wrong. If he hadn't gotten a stay he'd be dead. How many innocent people have been killed without good evidence? Too many. Even one is too many. Life in prison sucks. But at least if you're alive there's still a chance. Where's there's life, there's hope. Where there's no life, there's no hope.

America so loves to kill people. If they're dead how can you fix it when they're found innocent? We should kill the death penalty.

Man, there's just no justice in America. Not if your poor or black or Hispanic or female or middle class or male unless your rich.

I hope he gets off! This is just wrong. But if you're black you're guilty.

I think we should execute all black men just because they're black. And all women just because they're women. And all white people just because they look tacky wearing purple.
