Troy Anthony Davis Still Has a Chance

Troy Anthony Davis, the man who was convicted of killing a police officer on recanted evidence, has finally been giving a real chance.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit will consider the constitutionality of Davis' conviction and possibly the law beginning on December 9.  Seven of the nine non-police witnesses against him recanted their testimony, and some said one of the two remaining witnesses is the actual killer.  But Troy Davis, who's been locked up for 17 years, was still scheduled for execution three times.

Because of a law passed in the 1990s, even if Davis produces compelling evidence in his support, he can still be executed without a full hearing.  Hopefully, the court will declare this deadly law unconstitutional.

Why don't they just let the poor man go?

There's still hope. As long as there's life there's hope. Let's hope an innocent man can go home for Christmas.

Kill him and get it over with.

I believe they should look at his case. They shouldn't execute a man if there's that much doubt. You don't just kill, Nora.

Courts get it wrong. Another man was jailed for two years and forced to pay child support for a child who wasn't even his. The courts refused to allow DNA evidence that would prove the man wasn't the father. Man jailed

I know they met on December 9. Anybody know when they'll announce their decision?

The man's liable to die of old age before the court makes a decision. What's wrong with the court? Is it like, "well, he's been there for years. A few months more delay won't make a difference." Maybe they ought to lock up the members of court for several days and see how they feel. When you're inside, a day is forever.

It's taking them forever. And Alice the story about that man being jailed for two years is crazy. America has a stupid system of justice.
