Who Would Jesus Bomb? -- David Rovics
"Well I've just got one question
And I want an answer
Tell me, who would Jesus bomb?"
David Rovics asks that and questions the Christian justification for war in "Who Would Jesus Bomb?" Even though most of the Portland, Oregon resident is copyrighted, he let's individuals download his songs and poems for free, and performs in various parts of the world. With his social commentary and protests, musical storytelling, acoustic guitar and recordings that aren't artifically made perfect in studio, he reminds us a little of the early Bob Dylan.
In addition to "Who Would Jesus Bomb?," you might also want to listen to his song "John Brown" about the extremely controversial abolutionist and folk hero who led armed insurrection to end slavery in 19th century America.

Isn't Jesus coming back to destroy the world? He's gonna bomb everybody!

I really love this song and I just found it yesterday. It is very poignant.

Jesus didn't get into politics. He said "Give to Rome what is Rome". If you get into politics you have to watch what you say and do; and you have to decide who to bomb. Jesus wanted none of that.

Some things are just wrong. Is he implying that Christians are going around killing people for no reason? Jesus was not a terrorist and wasn't in the military.
In Matthew, Jesus said:
10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Jesus does not want us to fight each other and kill each other. But he knows that people will fight and will kill, and sometimes it's necessary to defend ourselves against the forces of evil and of the Devil. This song shows total disrespect for those who risked and even gave their lives fighting for freedom.

Say, Andy. This video doesn't imply people are killing for no reason. They're killing for profit. And saying you believe a war is wrong is not the same as saying you don't like the people who are in the war any more than saying cancer is a not so nice disease means the people who have it are rotten.
Also you didn't answer my question. Isn't Jesus coming back to destroy the entire world?

Kill for Jesus,
That's the rule,
Teach the kids
to kill in school.

There's no reason to be killing people like that. They are innocent. Don't Christians say "hate the sin love the sinner?"

No Jesus was no terrorist or Military man; He wasn't a polition or arms dealer either. I can not remember in the New Testament where Jesus advocated war or the slaughter of innocents to get at those who are guilty. Jesus wasn't into violence. When you bomb a city with napalm you not only kill your enemy but a lot of innocent people. People in the U.S. have been known to give money to evil dictators and sell arms to both sides in a foreign conflict. I don't think that killing people for profit is representing Jesus. Torture is an evil act. I don't care why you are doing it. I respect the soldiers who fight in Afghanistan and Iraq; they were sucessful and did a commendable job in winning the wars. God bless our soldiers.

If we can believe the book, Jesus died on the cross and was a pacifist. So killing in his name?

Bootie, Jesus is returning to create a new heaven and a new earth. The old will pass away for the new. It's to be a great act of creation, not destruction.
Vernon, Christians do not believe in killing for profit. But if we have to defend our freedom, especially our freedom to worship God, then we will defend ourselves.

Christians don't believe in killing for profit? How many Christian soldiers kill for free? And how many American corporations with Christian leaders fund politicians to start wars they think will make them money?

The question is, are those people who are killing for profit Christians? The answer is yes, unless you want to contend that no one who enters the military is Christian.
