JULY 15 + 16 2018
July 15 (Sunday)

While the vendors were disappointed (one left early), the rest of us seemed to
have a good time.  I got to spend more time with Lorien; ironically, usually I
see Lorien during es vacation more than anyone, but this time I didn't.  Lorien
reminded me that today was the one-year anniversary of when Herbie's wife Lesa
died, and wanted to be there for Herbie as needed, which I admittedly
regretfully understood.

We talked about seeing
Yellow Submarine, the 1968 Beatles' movie (although The
Beatles techincally only briefly appear in it).  I've only seen it on a small
screen and really wanted to go, but on the other hand I didn't want to leave
even fewer people at the event, so didn't go although Raidon and Josh did.
It's still hard for me to believe they're both young men and not still boys.

Beth actually convinced us to play 1000 Blank White Cards (1BWC), which I had
thought wouldn't work too well at an outside event with a breeze; later in the
game we did move to the motorhome.

Our players were Mindy, Lorien, Alexis, Les, Beth, and myself.  The card game
1BWC is one where the rules come almost entirely from the cards themselves, and
those are made by the players.  So "winning" tends to be more or less random.
Beth won the first game, and I won the second. I had wanted to run a
GURPS game
with my visitors, but felt that would take too much time away from the event.

Most of the others went hiking or hung around or did something else, and then
started singing and dancing which we joined later.  Matthew had apparently been
very excited about seeing Glori again, but Glori was hesitant about making a
big decision.  In any case, today they were virtually attached at the hip,
doing just about everything together.

We had some people return for the closing ceremony, and two of the groomsmen,
River Firehawk and Triton Rue, who had come earlier in the day were there at
the end.  I believe more had intended to stay through, but after helping with
the wedding and then being at the reception and away from the site, things
waned.  I'll switch back to event names.

We did have awards, most tongue-in-cheek, like last year.  Thorngirl won for
"Most Wasted Cloves," although how it was determined who kissed the most I do
not know.  Bluemoon Dolphin Child won for "Best Catch Phrase" for "You use a
brush?" which got repeated many times.  Turtlewax, who does use a brush for
bodypainting, won for "Best Body Art" for transforming Trorry Gaia Avalon into
the Earth. Weirdest dancing went to the Disco-Rdian Dancing Trip; best wearable
art went to Cerridwyn Dragonfhain, Thorngirl, and Verbascum Hare who made the
bride's headpiece.  Biggest wedding splash (getting thrown in the pool) went to
Celestine Hvergelmir.

While we planned cleanup for Monday, actually it was virtually all done today
except for taking down the pavilion.

Some of us stayed at Dave, Fiona, and Lisa's; this included them, Lisa's
daughters Crissy and Randi (Buddy was elsewhere), Herbie, Lorien, Mindy, Emma,
and Christopher.  Matthew and Glori were by themselves, specifically in the
room Lorien and I had shared more than once before.  Matthew actually asked me
permission to use the bedroom, which was unnecessary as I had no more right to
the room than e did.  Matthew is considerate like es older sister.

Lorien, Mindy, and I have done LARP before, but this time it was just Mindy and
I in the motorhome.  I was King Harmonius, and Mindy was Princess Tinkqueng of
Bomo nicknamed Tinkie.  An enemy had laid seige, and barricaded the gate
between the two towers of the princess' castle.  On horse back, I fought the
enemy, and broke down the barricade.  But the enemy was still hidden within.
Using a magic wand, I searched for them from the entrance, testing for the
vibration of their footsteps and the rhythm of their breathing.  All at once,
the enemy spewed forth, and I was hit with a warring wave.  The princess
grabbed my horse, and mouthed a spell.  E then transformed into Kitai.  I
kissed es hand, then rode on my steed to come from behind, but did not enter
the castle.  Kitai mouthed a spell, and the wave of enemies was gone.  My horse
snorted, and both Kitai and I handled the now free and open gate in victory.

July 16 (Monday)

I'm not sure what exactly Glori and Matthew's relationship is, especially as
they live over 1,000 miles apart.  But they both underwent a significant change
this weekend.

Unfortunately, Lorien, Mindy, Herbie, Matthew, Raidon, Emma, and Christopher
had to leave to return home.  I saw Lorien and perhaps Mindy less this time
than I have on any of their vacations.  Things change, and not always the way
we'd like them to.

I got several hugs and/or kisses, and they left.

I often feel a let down when my guests leave, but this time more so than
usual.  Lorien and I had realized long ago we would not become a permanent
couple, but in the back of my mind the possibility was always there.  Now, that
possibility is virtually gone.

We really did not have enough people to take down the pavilion.  With it
partially down, we decided to put it back up and leave it until there were more
helpers.  It's private land, and I don't think anybody will mind it being
there.  Frankly, it could be left up all the time except for the damaging
effects of the elements.
